Ercy Mirage – Life’s a Bitch – My Tribute Remix

There are certain songs that get under your skin and stay there forever. For me, Nas’ “Life’s a Bitch” is one of them. Growing up in Queens, this track was more than just a hip-hop anthem — it was a piece of the air we breathed. Every corner, every park bench, every late-night drive had that beat echoing in the background.

But this song carries even more weight for me now. It was the last thing my brother tweeted before he passed away in 2018. That moment — that lyric — has stayed with me ever since. I can’t hear “Life’s a Bitch” without thinking of him, without feeling both the ache of loss and the beauty of everything we shared.

How This Remix Started

This wasn’t planned. It wasn’t on my release schedule. It wasn’t meant to be “content.” It was therapy.

A while back, my other brother Kris and my friends Gabriel Khai (Gabbie) and Little NY (Indi) started a concept for this remix in Gabbie’s basement. They sent it to me, rough and raw, and I just… sat on it for a while. I couldn’t bring myself to touch it. Maybe I wasn’t ready. Maybe I was scared of what it would stir up.

Then one day I pulled out my Roland TB-03 and TR-8S drum machine — the same gear I use to experiment with acid and tech-house textures — and something clicked. I wasn’t overthinking. I wasn’t engineering a “club banger.” I was just feeling. I let the machines run and guided them like a conversation with my brother.

Why I’m Releasing It for Free

Music like this doesn’t belong behind a paywall. It’s not about streams or charts. This remix is a gift — to my brother, to anyone who’s ever lost someone, and to anyone who understands how music can save you when nothing else can.

So here it is, free on SoundCloud. Take it. Play it. Share it. Let it mean whatever it needs to mean to you.

Queens Roots, Eternal Influence

Growing up in Queens, Nas was everywhere. He was the soundtrack of ambition and survival. For me, remixing “Life’s a Bitch” wasn’t about flipping a classic for clout — it was about connecting eras: the raw poetry of ‘90s hip-hop with the hypnotic drive of today’s underground house scene. It’s a way of saying: this is who I was, this is who I am, this is where I come from.
