Call Me Your Sensei Ft. Artan: How a Spontaneous DM Turned Into a Global Collab

This one started the day I got my Moog Messenger.

I was in the studio, no expectations, just touching the instrument, letting it speak. Within minutes, this dirty, hypnotic bassline started forming – one of those lines that feels alive, like it already knows where it wants to go. Naturally, I followed it.

Before I knew it, I was deep into a groovy tech house record. Drums locked. Low end bouncing. Energy was right.
But something was missing.

Not a bass.
Not drums.
Not arrangement.

A voice.

I tried everything – different synth patches, chord stabs, melodic ideas — nothing clicked. Out of curiosity, I stumbled across an older track by Artan. I tried sampling it.

Didn’t feel right.

So instead of forcing it… I did what creatives do in 2025.

I hit him up on Instagram.

“Yo bruv — big fan. Would love to collab.”

No expectations.

His response?

“Love the beat. Send me the parts.”

I sent everything over – stems, ideas, space to create.
A few weeks later… boom.

Call Me Your Sensei was born.

What made it even crazier?
At the time, Artan was in Bangkok.
I was in New York City.

Different time zones. Different cultures. Same frequency.

The record came together fast. One of those sessions where nothing fights you — it just flows. To tighten everything up, I called on some of my closest collaborators and trusted ears:

  • Elias R.
  • Gaven (NY)
  • Nicole Fiallo

We moved quickly. No overthinking. No waiting for “the right moment.”

And here’s the funny part

This record dropped right in the middle of two very successful Afro House releases:

  • Pili Pili
  • The remix pack with Nes Mburu

And Call Me Your Sensei?
Didn’t fit my repertoire at all 😂

Different energy. Different lane. Different attitude.

But that’s the point.

Sometimes the best records are the ones that don’t ask for permission.

This was a huge collab, built on respect, instinct, and pure love for the craft.
